Why Amazon Flags Pet Grooming Products as Hazmat

Does my pet shampoo need an SDS to sell on Amazon?
If Amazon's Dangerous Goods program has asked for one, yes, and you have 14 business days to provide it. Is my aerosol pet spray automatically hazmat?
Almost always, yes. Aerosols are pressurized and use flammable propellants, so they classify as aerosols under GHS (typically Category 1 or 2) and ship as UN1950 in transport. Amazon's hazmat team flags aerosols on intake; an accurately classified SDS is what gets your listing through review.
What if my product has essential oils?
Essential oils introduce real classification considerations even in small amounts, skin sensitisation (often Category 1), eye irritation, aquatic toxicity, and in some cases flammability. We classify essential-oil-containing formulations honestly so the SDS reads as accurate to anyone who checks the ingredients, rather than triggering a rejection on the second review.

Regulations & Compliance Standards
The backbone of SDS compliance worldwide is the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) — a framework developed by the United Nations. The GHS is not international law; each country chooses to adopt some or all of its provisions, which is why an SDS that's compliant in one market may not be compliant in another.
